Recently, James was called out to assist an elderly lady who was having problems unlocking her house.
When James arrived the lock just needed some minor attention to stop the lock binding and some re-alignment. Fixing this helped, but James noticed that the real problem was that arthritis had robbed this person of the strength needed in her hands to turn the key in the lock.
He suggested that the customer have a new key cut on a master key blank. This blank is nearly twice the size of the standard domestic key blank.
Having a larger key head meant that the woman could hold the key and apply the necessary leverage to open the lock.
There are some other products on the market to assist those with poor hand mobility such as a special purpose key holder. However, you may not need to go this far. Metrolock will cut you a key with a larger head.
Sometimes, it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference to our daily lives. So, if you or someone you know has similar difficulties with handling door keys, perhaps this is the solution you’ve been looking for!
